3R60
Modular EBS knee joint, polycentric, with hydraulic-controlled swing phase
New and improved
We've taken the excellent walking comfort and stability of the 3R60 and made them even better. The newest version of our 3R60 "EBS" knee has improved hydraulic features so that it 'keeps up' with your user, while maintaining the outstanding security created by its polycentric design.
The 3R60 is re-designed to fit heavier weight users, up to 125 kg (275 lbs), all while losing 10% of its weight. Adjustable swing phase hydraulic and stance resistance round out the changes that will rank this knee as the most effective (and most popular) on the market.

What is EBS?
EBS stands for “Ergonomically Balanced Stride”. Its unique mechanism provides a controlled knee flexion up to 15° during heel strike (phase B).
This individually adjustable stand phase flexion provides additional security for the knee, while the load on the residual limb, hip and spine is substantially reduced due to the Ergonomically Balanced Stride. With the EBS prosthesis, walking is again a comfortable experience and approximates the healthy, natural gait.
The illustration on the right shows typical knee angles throughout the gait cycle.
  How does EBS work?
With polycentric knee joints, the Instantaneous Centre of Rotation (ICR) lies at the crossover point of the extrapolated lines going through the posterior and the anterior linkage axes (Fig. 1). The center of rotation at heel strike determines the security of the prosthesis. During this stage of the stance phase, the proximal joint sections of the 3R60 move posteriorly around the lower axis (Fig. 2, A) which in turn shifts the ICR proximally and posteriorly (Fig. 2, B).
Compared to other prosthetic knee joints, the stability of the 3R60 increases significantly with knee flexion. The blue rubber buffer of the EBS unit is compressed, upon which the pivoting rocker rotates upwards (Fig. 2, C). The rocker serves as a visual indicator of the degree of EBS utilisation by the user (Fig. 3). A hydraulic system within the EBS provides a dampening effect during late stance phase, allowing for a more comfortable gait.
